A Chinese lab said it has achieved a breakthrough in sixth-generation (6G) mobile technology. The government-backed Purple Mountain Laboratories said in a statement on January 5, 2022, that a research team had achieved a wireless transmission speed of 206.25 gigabits per second, a world record for real-time wireless transmission. The 6G speed recorded was about 10-20 times faster than current 5G technology in China.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly said the speed achieved was 100 times faster than 5G, an increase some wireless technology experts say 6G could ultimately achieve.

Moving over to China, where Huawei and China Mobile have launched the world's fastest internet.
They announced on Monday that the new internet network would have a speed of about 1.2 terabits per second, equivalent to transferring 150 movies per second.
This collaboration project between Tsinghua University, China Mobile, Huawei Technologies and Cernet Corporation saw the development of optic fiber cables extending around 3,000 km from Beijing to Guangzhou, and is launching about two years faster than what experts have forecast.
Almost all other backbone networks around the world, including the U.S., operate at only around 100 to 400 gigabytes per second.
However, the 1.2 terabit speed does not apply to household internet speeds, and won't be available for re...

However, the 1.2 terabit speed does not apply to household internet speeds, and won't be available for regular consumers anytime soon.
